No-Fly List?

After reading this, I’m not really surprised that the man who confessed to planting the car bomb in Times Square last Saturday was able to fly back to the United States from Pakistan despite being on the no-fly list.

The Atlantic article was published in 2008 but it apparently had no effect on the airport security practices even though it blew their methods out of the water.

It looks like something needs to change.

WNET.ORG opens a studio in Lincoln Center

WNET.ORG, New York City’s local public media provider, opened a brand new broadcast studio in Lincoln Center this week. The beautiful new studio is on the first and second floors of the Alice Tully Hall. It looks out onto the corner of Broadway and 66th Street. Passersby can look in from the street and see filming in action. Check out the front page story I wrote for the West Side Spirit on the studio and it’s ribbon cutting.

Manhattan Borough President doesn’t like the DOE’s plan for overcrowded schools

Borough President Scott Stringer doesn’t like how the Department of Education is handling the problem of overcrowded public schools on the Upper East and Upper West Sides. In particular, he’s unhappy with the waitlist timeline. He says the plan allows for too much uncertainty for parents of children on waitlists.

Parents and community leaders in both neighborhoods are anxious about the problem. Several prominent community leaders hope that the issues of overcrowding the DOE has faced in the last year will spur the department to look for more long term solutions such as opening new schools in new buildings.
